This spectacular mansion and its surrounding gardens, park and farmland is one of the last surviving country estates in London. Transformed in the late 18th century for the wealthy Child family, the House and Garden were designed for entertaining and impressing this banking family’s friends and clients.

Mobility Information

House and Jersey Galleries: 20 steps to entrance. There is no handrail. Alternative internal stairs with handrail. If you are a wheelchair user you can make use of a Stairclimber which will lift you in your chair. Important: It cannot lift powered or non-standard chairs (e.g. sports models). For health & safety reasons it cannot be operated when the steps are wet. Alternative step free entrance to Jersey Galleries available. Please let the Visitor Welcome staff know if you wish to make use of these facilities.
Garden: Generally level paths. Some loose gravel, cobbles and can get muddy if wet.
Shop: ramped access.
Tea Room: level access.
The park toilets: include a unisex cubicle adapted for disabled visitors. Level access.
Electric courtesy bus: Our volunteers run a free shuttle service between the car park, House, Tea Room and Gift Shop during House opening hours.
Wheelchairs: Two outdoor wheelchairs are available at the Car Park, and two indoor wheelchairs at the Entrance Hall to the House.
Single and two-seat self-drive battery powered vehicles may be hired free of charge between 1.30 and 4.30 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from May until the end of October. Trained volunteers will provide instruction and assistance.
